Blood And The Cells It Contains
One has approximately five liters of blood in the body, composing 45% red blood cells, 55% plasma (which is yellowish in color and contains proteins), and 1% white blood cells and platelets.
Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to all cells in the body. Platelets primarily function to prevent and stop bleeding, while white blood cells comprise only 1% of total blood volume.
The platelets are the focus of this discussion, as they play a significant role in many processes. Despite their diminutive size, they possess remarkable power:
- Platelets possess vasoconstrictive properties, allowing them to reduce blood loss by decreasing the size of the blood vessels. Additionally, platelets congregate to form a plug that seals any minor breaks in the blood vessels.
- They secrete procoagulant substances, which promote blood clotting, as well as enzymes that dissolve existing clots.
- They also secrete a chemical that attracts white blood cells, such as neutrophils and monocytes, to the area of inflammation. This induces inflammation, which in turn induces healing. Additionally, these cells destroy bacteria, thus aiding in immunity.
- Growth factors in the south aid in the formation of new cells such as fibroblasts, and helps to maintain and repair blood vessels.
The Process Of Extracting Platelet-Rich Plasma
The physician harvests blood from the patient and places it in a centrifuge tube. The centrifugation process separates the blood into distinct layers based on their respective weights.
The doctor will harvest the platelet-rich plasma and inject them into the designated area. In the case of erectile dysfunction (ED), the physician injects the PRP into the penis in order to repair leaking blood vessels and improve blood flow. The platelets also work to restore smooth muscle in the penis.
Roles Of Platelet-Rich Plasma In Treating ED
Erectile dysfunction is mainly because of poor blood flow due to the impairment of the vessels carrying blood from the groin to the penis. This impairment causes small holes or leaks in the walls of these vessels, resulting in leakage of blood and the inability to achieve a firm erection.
Platelet-rich plasma is capable of repairing the leakage through the formation of a clot and inducing other cells to come to the area in order to repair the blood vessels and smooth muscle.
The penis is composed of smooth muscle and requires adequate blood vessels to achieve an erection. Proper blood flow and platelet function are necessary for the desired response.
PRP therapy for ED can take up to three weeks to reach its maximum effectiveness, with effects lasting for a minimum of one year and potentially much longer. The number of injections needed may vary depending on the severity of the ED. Those with severe ED may require more than one injection, while those with mild cases may only need one.
Platelet-Rich Plasma and BOTOX for ED?
The combination of PRP and BOTOX is for accelerated improvement. BOTOX relaxes the muscle, while PRP repairs the blood vessels to increase blood flow. Results can be seen within five days.
Also, the combination of BOTOX into PRP treatment has been observed to yield an increase of approximately one centimeter in both length and girth.
Though combining PRP and BOTOX has yielded positive results for patients. However, it is important to note that this approach may not be suitable for everyone and medical consultation should be sought to ensure eligibility.
Final Thoughts
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is mainly due to poor blood flow. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a potential treatment option for ED, due to its capacity to repair blood vessels and soft tissue collagen. This can result in improved endothelial lining of the blood vessel, increased blood flow, and repaired muscles.
PRP does not produce any adverse effects as it utilizes one's own blood. The outcomes are all-natural, resulting in increased spontaneity, firmness, and stiffness.
